Riga Startups

The Membership Rules

Riga Startups is published by Sageo SIA, a company registered in Latvia (reg. Nr. 40203775716). This page says what a paid membership buys, and the far more important part, what it does not.

These rules were written before anything could be bought. They were published in September 2026, while the site had no way to charge a card and nobody had paid anything, for the same reason the sponsorship policy was: a rule published the week the first invoice arrives is not a rule, it is a press release. Membership can now be bought, and nothing below has been softened to suit that.

The rules

These hold whatever a member pays, how many of them there are, and how much of the running cost they cover.

  1. 01

Everything that is free today stays free.

The map, every guide, every report, the CSV downloads and the methodology do not move behind a login later. A member and a stranger read the same site, and the free one is never made worse to make the paid one look better.

  2. 02

    Membership buys work, not access.

A machine watching the register on your behalf, a reminder before a deadline, an export, a dossier assembled from a dozen public sources. If a feature is valuable only because someone else is prevented from seeing it, it does not ship.

  3. 03

A listing is never for sale, to members either.

Paying changes nothing about whether an organisation is on the map, where it ranks, how it is described, or whether it can be left off. This is the same rule as sponsorship and it does not soften for a subscription.

  4. 04

A number is never for sale, and never held back.

No figure is computed differently for a member, and no figure is kept out of the public report so it can be sold in a private one. A member who dislikes a statistic about their own company gets the same answer as anyone else.

  5. 05

    Nobody reads a report early.

Not a member, not a sponsor, not the company a report is about. Everything publishes to everyone at the same moment, including the member who asked for the research.

  6. 06

A member company is treated like every other company.

Same corrections, same statistics, same refusal to delete a fact that is on the public record. Paying does not buy a quieter record, and cancelling does not make one louder.

  7. 07

Prices are published, including every discount.

What a member pays is on this site, so nobody has to wonder what the person next to them was charged, or what a favour cost.

  8. 08

Leaving takes nothing away that was public.

Exports stay yours, the underlying register data was always open, and no part of the free site stops working when a subscription does.

  9. 09

If we break one of these, it gets said here.

On this page, with the date, and the month refunded. A rule that is only enforced by the people it constrains is a slogan.

What membership buys

Each of these is labour or convenience on top of a public record, which is the test any paid feature has to pass.

Watching the register for you. The register changes every night, and almost nobody reads it. A watchlist that tells you when a company you follow changes its board, its address, its capital or its status is a machine doing a job a person will not do daily.

Reminders before a deadline. The annual report dates, the public funding cut-offs and the filing windows are already published in the guides. Being told in time is the part worth paying for.

Assembled dossiers and exports. A company’s register record, officers, capital history, filed accounts, address history and open roles gathered into one document, in English, in one click.

Programmatic access. Keys and webhooks for people building on the dataset. The files stay free to download; what is paid for is the query interface over them, a response shape that will not change under an integration, and being told when something moves instead of asking. No uptime is promised, because this runs on infrastructure that does not offer one, and a commitment nobody can honour is worse than no commitment at all.

What it never buys

The public record behind a paywall. The register data is published by the state under CC0. Charging for it would be both wrong and pointless, and every dataset this site derives stays downloadable by anyone.

Placement, ranking, or a flattering description anywhere on the map, in a report, or in a guide.

Removal of an inconvenient fact. A company that dislikes what the register says about it can correct an error, which is free, or disagree in public, which is also free.

Founders’ contact details, or a list to market to. Personal data is not a product here. What the site holds about people is kept to the minimum that verification needs, and it is never sold, rented or bundled.

Influence over research. No member chooses a question, sees a finding early, or reviews a draft.

Why the data itself stays free

Three reasons, in the order they matter. It is a public record, and a public record put behind a login stops being one. It is CC0, so anyone could rebuild it and a paywall would only guarantee that someone does. And the work that makes it useful, reconciling a brand to a registration number, geocoding an address, deduplicating a company that appears twice, is the part worth paying for anyway.

The thing being sold, if anything is ever sold, is that the reconciliation keeps happening tonight and the night after.

What it costs

Three plans, one of which is free and stays free. A year costs ten months, which is the only discount that exists: there is no negotiated rate, no founder deal and no price that depends on who is asking.

PlanA monthA yearWho it is for
FreeFreeFreeEveryone, forever
MemberEUR 15EUR 150A founder, an operator, one person keeping an eye on things
TeamEUR 99EUR 990An investor, a firm, anyone tracking the market as a job
  • Free. The map, every guide, every report and every dataset. Watch up to five companies. One weekly digest of what changed on them.
  • Member. Watch as many companies as you like. Alerts the morning after a change, rather than weekly. Reminders before a company you watch has its annual report due. Your watchlist as a spreadsheet, with those dates in it, whenever you want it.
  • Team. Everything in Member, for up to 10 people. Company dossiers assembled from the register, the accounts and the boards. A key for the API, and a webhook posted whatever changed overnight.

Prices exclude VAT. Stripe sells the membership as merchant of record, so it adds whatever VAT your country charges at checkout and remits it there. Sageo SIA holds no VAT number and never handles that money. A year is billed as 10 months. Prices are set in euro, and Stripe may show and charge the total in your own currency at its exchange rate, which has a conversion fee built into it. An invoice follows every payment.

The free plan is not a trial. It carries the whole site: the map, every guide, every report and every dataset, and enough of the watchlist to be useful on its own. If that stops being true, the membership should end rather than the free plan shrink.

If we get this wrong

Tell us, in public if you prefer. Write to vinayak@sageo.ai. A broken rule gets written on this page with the date it broke, not quietly fixed.
